We arrived in Tel Aviv after a remarkably comfortable eleven hour flight from Toronto. As soon as we walked off the plane it was clear that we were in a different world.
We arrived in Tel Aviv after a remarkably comfortable eleven hour flight from Toronto. As soon as we walked off the plane it was clear that we were in a different world.
We arrived in the late morning, but thanks to the time change we had not been able to get much sleep over the previous 24 hours. But we were here. at last. Hilary and I happily settled into a very nice apartment in one of the 'up and coming' areas of Jaffa, next to dozens of sidewalk restaraunts, and a huge, colorful Arab market. This, our first journal entry was completed just after coming back from a lovely walk through the ancient town of Jaffa (photos below). The weather was warm, and slightly humid. The beach, spectacular. We're looking forward to exploring along the coast in the morning.

The Hanging Tree - a well known landmark in old Jaffa, this suspended Orange tree was created by the artist Ran Moran to describe the juxtaposition of man and nature. Symbolically, however, it also represents for some as Israel’s rebirth as a nation and triumph over sand and wasted lands.
